Battered Women’s Centre, Kenya

In Kenya, violence against women is a serious and widespread problem and a major cause of death and disability. In a context of extreme poverty, poor infrastructure and lack of access to medical care, women and children exposed to violence and danger have nowhere to turn. Through an holistic approach, OPPF offers protection, aid, support and education for those affected. A self-sustainable Battered Women’s Centre will respond to women’s and children’s immediate practical, physical and psychological needs. The simultaneous provision of vocational and educational training in an environment that provides a sense of security, belonging and purpose, will allow for a more holistic and sustainable rehabilitation. Women and children will be provided the tools, support and time needed to recover, and to create a better future for themselves, their families and communities.
